The Global Math Initiative aims to utilize global math experts to conduct groundbreaking research in classrooms, uncovering the issue’s root causes for underperforming math scores in South Carolina. At our Global Math Summit, we explore the root causes of mathematics issues within our our district, state, and nation. Mathematics experts from around the world will work to drive transformative change through the evaluation of research, global expert and teacher interaction, and transparent dialog about the needs for students in today’s classroom.

The first “State of the State in Mathematics” town hall was held on Friday, September 15 at the Institute’s offices in Columbia. The Town Hall united educators to discuss the current crisis in math education and featured remarks from guest speakers Ms. Elizabeth Schumpert (South Carolina Department of Education), Dr. Matthew Lavery (Education Oversight Committee), and Ms. Sherri Abel, an experienced math educator.
The Charter Institute at Erskine is hosting math professional development sessions for educators across the state. During these trainings, participants explore the latest math standards, engage in discussions around innovative instructional strategies, and connect with fellow educators from across South Carolina.
